Following further training in genetics at Harvard Medical School, in 2008 Prof de Magalhaes joined the University of Liverpool in the UK and established the Integrative Genomics of Ageing group. His research on genetics, ageing and longevity has been widely featured in scientific magazines and he has published over 100 scientific papers. Prof de Magalhaes is a world-leader in big data and computational analyses. In addition, he has a long term interest in technological trends and their future impact on society. His work on predicting how technology will shape the human condition has been published in magazines such as Futures and The Futurist, and in newspapers like The Independent. Prof de Magalhaes has given over 100 invited talks in international conferences, and in many academic institutions and companies (e.g., Google’s Calico and Allianz). He also makes regular media appearances (BBC, CNN, the Washington Post, the Financial Times and many others). He is Chief Scientific Officer of Centaura, an ambitious biotech company in Switzerland focused on healthy ageing , and founded his own his company Magellan Science Ltd. The annual Ending Age-Related Diseases (EARD) conference by Lifespan.io brings together longevity thought leaders together to exchange research reports, inspire and get inspired with new ideas, find collaborators, supporters, and mentors.
