Is there a link between EDS and Autism? | What are the signs of EDS? Understanding the terminology | How to self-advocate | The association between Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) and autism is an underfunded and under-researched area. However, it is our belief is it is important for autistic people to know that there might be an additional cause to symptoms that they are experiencing. The webinar will be run by Thriving Autistic’s coach practitioner, Jasper, who is autistic and has hypermobile EDS himself; he also volunteers for EDS UK and in his spare time, he runs a support group for EDS UK members in Newcastle. This webinar will be co-run with EDS UK’s advice and information manager, Sarah, who has a personal interest in autism and EDS. Due to this probable link of the two conditions, it is important to know and understand the signs and symptoms of EDS if you are autistic, in case you have EDS yourself. It is vital to look out for EDS in friends/family who may also be autistic, as often EDS presents slightly differently in the neurodivergent population, and it is important to manage those symptoms. We will also be explaining what the medical jargon in the new criteria actually means so that you can properly understand it, as well as how to explain your pain in relation to the pain scale, and how to advocate for yourself.
