The Nevada Northern Railway (NN) was built between 1905 and 1906 to transport copper ore from the White Pine County mines to regional smelters. The 150-mile rail line extended from Ely to Shafter and Cobre, connecting with the Western Pacific Railroad and the Southern Pacific Railroad, respectively. The NN is now known as a "heritage railway" because it's still operating today, with 30 miles of track in regular use. The NN was built to support the area's copper mining industry, which was booming in the early 1900s. The railroad was abandoned in 1978, but the tracks were never torn up. The NN Complex is the best-preserved, least altered, and most complete main yard complex from the steam railroad era. The East Ely yard escaped modernization because of its geographical remoteness and the decline of the mining industry it once served. The Nevada Northern Railway Museum maintains the original steam and diesel engines that run the 150 miles of track that still operate, including locomotive #40, which was featured in the 2017 J-pop music video "Black Train" by Tsuyoshi Nagabuchi. The museum also has over 70 buildings and structures on the grounds. Gear we use and recommend: Click the link below https://www.amazon.com/shop/weekendes...
