With this video, we’ll be creating our first application. Specifically, we’ll be preparing a basic-level enemy. Our enemy will have the following states: Idle, Patrol, Chase, Attack, Hurt, Dead, and Mandatory Idle. We’ll be preparing the basic state.gd and finitestatemachine.gd scripts that we’ll use for all our enemies. If certain rules aren’t followed, setting up the enemy state structure can turn into a real headache. When I first started, I couldn’t figure out the source of the problems for quite a while. However, the most important thing to pay special attention to is that all state change commands you give through the enemy’s main node should ignore any commands coming from the states themselves. For my enemies, I only issue state transition commands through the main node for the Hurt and Dead states. The state structure for almost all enemies is managed through the Chase state, which checks the conditions of variables and issues transition commands accordingly. It took me days to figure this out, but with this video, you can master it in no time! If there are specific enemy videos you'd like me to prepare, don’t forget to mention them in the comments. Keep Deving... For those who may be a bit lazy 😅, short on time ⏰, or simply want to support me 💪, I’ll also be sharing the enemy code used in the videos on my Patreon account.
