What does it take to bike 333 miles in five days? From 96°F heat to riverside breaks, dark tunnels, snakes, storms, and a cool finish into D.C., this trip was as unpredictable as it was beautiful. GAP Trail: gaptrail.org C and O Trail: gaptrail.org 01:15 Day 1 Pittsburgh to Connellsville 65 miles. 93°F. The first leg of our 333-mile ride threw us straight into the summer heat, rolling out from Pittsburgh on the Great Allegheny Passage. 03:08 Day 2 Connellsville to Meyersdale 60 miles and 94°F temperatures had us looking for every chance to cool off. From the trail to the riverbanks, this was the day we learned why summer rides demand mid-route swims. 05:40 Day 3 Meyersdale to Hancock 97 miles, the Mason-Dixon Line, dark tunnels, rain, mosquitoes, fireflies, and the hottest day yet at 96°F. 13:23 Day 4 Hancock to Harpers Ferry 69 miles through 93°F heat and the surprise of seeing snakes swimming alongside the trail. The miles added up, and so did the unexpected encounters. 17:45 Day 5 Harpers Ferry to Washington D.C. 75 miles to the finish. A break in the heat with cool 76°F weather carried us into the nation’s capital, wrapping up 333 miles in five unforgettable days.
