Dr. Dana Miranda, Ph.D., Coordinator of the Initiative on Campus Dialogue and the Encounters Dialogue Series at UConn, joined CT Civic Ambassadors and guests in an exploration and discussion on the topics of “civility” and “civil discourse.” The discussion examined the questions: What are the aims of civil discourse? Has the call for civility and civil discourse always advanced the goals of building a better, more just democratic society? Does civility and civil discourse mean the same for everyone? What are the distinctions? Can they both still exist in the context of strong disagreement and, if so, how can we create spaces for this to happen? What are the types of civil discourse modalities that we can use for meaningful dialogue and conversation on difficult issues? This 65-minute Zoom event is part of the Connecticut Civic Ambassadors Civic Learning Series.
