They don’t grow up fast. We’re just not there enough to see it happening. We say it all the time: “They grow up so fast.” But do they or are we just not present enough to really see it happening? When I lost my mum just months before becoming pregnant, something shifted in me. Grief and new life collided in the same season, and I realised that if I was choosing to have children, I wanted to truly have them. Not just catch glimpses in between stress, work and rushing through the days. This isn’t about judging anyone’s choices. It’s about questioning my own. We’ve downsized. We’ve sacrificed. We’ve home educated. We’ve stepped away from what felt “normal.” And now we’re travelling full-time as a family in Malaysia — not because it’s easy, but because we didn’t want to look back with regret. So when people say, “They grow up so fast,” I wonder… Is there something we can do about it? Can we be more present? Can we slow it down by actually being there? I’d genuinely love to know your thoughts. Have you ever said those words — and what did you mean by them?
