Today's adventure took us to Raton, the Gateway to the New State! (May 22, 2022) Once a popular resting point on the Santa Fe Trail, Raton grew into a large coal mining town. Following the shift to natural gas, agriculture and tourism keep the city alive today. NOTE: This video focuses on the American settlement of Raton. Please watch our Trinidad video for a more detailed description of area settlement prior to 1800.
