Jeroen Willems died on December 3, 2012 only several weeks after he finished shooting Tula The revolt on Curacao. He plays the part of Willem van Uytrecht; the owner of the plantation Knip where Tula lives. He is a haughty and merciless man, who finds it absolutely justified that his slaves work the dry lands of his plantation seven days a week. When Tula comes to him to plead his freedom, Van Uytrecht won't hear of it. The slaves decide to go on strike. Tula The Revolt is an international production about the leader of the Slave Revolt of 1795 on the island of Curacao, which at the time, fell under the rule of the Republic of the United Netherlands. It tells the true story of a man who had the courage to stand up against his oppressors and who tried to give his people their freedom in a non-violent way.
