Virtually every turfgrass out there will grow just fine when the soil pH is between 6.0 and 8.0 but in nearly all cases the lawn will be healthier and will uptake and use nutrients more efficiently if the soil pH is between 6.3 and 6.6 which just so happens to be on the slightly acidic side of neutral. Lowering pH in a lawn is usually a slower process than raising pH and when your soil is trending closer to 8.0 than 7.0 then it may be even harder to move the needle over the long haul simply because there is probably a good deal of basic material in the soil that will neutralize any acidifiers over time. ►►You can also see this article on the Turf Mechanic website where I outline the different ways to lower pH in the lawn: https://turfmechanic.com/lowering-soi... ◄◄ In my lawn I'm starting the 2021 lawn season off with a pH around 6.8 to 6.9 and my goal this season is to inch my pH lower so that by 2022 my pH is closer to 6.5. There are five main types of products that can be used to lower pH in a lawn and in this video I explain what those options are, why you would use them, why you may not want to use them, and I also lay out my strategy for inching my pH lower over the course of the year. In this video I explain how I'm using a combination of Peat Moss top dressed over core aerated lawn-space, ammonium sulfate acidifying fertilizer, Urea-Triazone, and elemental soil Sulphur in a deliberate sequence through the Spring and into the summer.
