Hello everyone. It's been a while. I present to you the newest siren in the county... kinda. Last year I posted a video about a couple of sirens, both Whelen WPS-2910's, in Muscogee County being out of commission due to the heads snapping off of their poles. In one case it was a construction accident that knocked the siren down, and in the other case it was a tornado that probably flung the siren into the woods or somebody's backyard. Both shattered into pieces with the one struck by the tornado sustaining the most damage. This one was the one from the construction accident, and as you can tell from the way the replacement sounds the controls were reusable. The other one was damaged beyond repair, and when it is replaced with a new 2910 in the future it will actually be the newest siren in the county. A 2910 and a 435 Hz tone makes for a weird combination. As you can hear with many of my 2810 videos and others around the web, the heads tend to hiss due to the large screens on the sirens. When the 2900 series sirens replaced the 2800 series the large screens were dropped and reverted back to the smaller ones used on the 2700 series. This made room for the EZ-Pull driver compartment on the head (notice the handles on the cells). This got rid of the hiss, but the vibrations cause the heads to sound somewhat more raspy in tone. I knew this was a thing, but when combined with the older controllers the raspy sound was way more noticeable. Along with the the "clipping/popping" sound associated with these older controllers due to the instability of the firmware on the logic board becomes way more apparent. Believe me, it sounded just as raspy in person as it did in the video. Columbus's system of 47 (46 at the moment) sirens is tested every Saturday at noon.
