Benny Goodman with Charlie Christian and the Count Basie Orchestra

In 1940 Benny Goodman went into the hospital for back surgery and broke up his band. For a NYC hotel concert he hired Count Basie and several of Basie's guys, adding himself and guitar genius Charlie Christian for an all star ensemble. As Godfrey points out in the comments, this recording is not the hotel concert, but a studio rehearsal for it, October 28, 1940.
