Andy Bell (Erasure) reads 3 poems from his 'Andy Bell is Torsten' collaborator Barney Ashton-Bullock's poetry pamphlet 'Café Kaput!' The 'Café Kaput!' pamphlet is available from the publisher www.brokensleepbooks.com and also via Amazon. The background music is comprised of sections of instrumental versions of tracks originally on the Andy Bell 'Torsten The Bareback Saint' album which is available on CD in casebound booklet from www.cherryred.co.uk or to download from I-tunes. The poems are written by Barney Ashton-Bullock. The actors in the films are Andy Bell and Barney Ashton-Bullock and the music was originally arranged by Christopher Frost. Poem 1 : 'Done For' Probabilistic! The minute that the mindset told me, We, pop band, were product, We were as quanta unbound Wretching to wrung, strung, powdery scattering; Done in with the knowledge, And done for. Poem 2 : 'Anteroom' In anteroom fester, the draught swung pendant lamp flickers the nibbed shadows of mildew fronds to distend down warped, damp, woodchipped walls. Powdering tomes of inspirational verse mâché in our ferreting fingers. We await the clicking tannoy’s sputtered instruction; “Your weaknesses, your sins and your issues did not make the shortlist. Disperse! Disperse! O, derivative verse!” Poem 3 : 'Unbidden' Commercial temperance hotel Tots of teetotal Sasparilla And soft supped shots of hot coffee Pipe smoke masks a third latent fart threading its wrank way through the feathered cushions Betwixt settee slumberers dossing in the umbra thrown around a candle lit reading room Rigorous excision of whispered drifts of idle cant By a maiden aunt steeped in the Manchester Guardian Such upstandees uphold the bold wall painted command of ‘Silence!’ In undulating eye darts of ‘Shush!’ While the fob watches in murmurous choral tick Lick at the static air, unbidden ©2020 Barney Ashton-Bullock / SFE Ltd.
