The Amazon of Bangladesh | Ratargul Swamp Forest | 12D17 Day 17B Hello everyone, this is Ahmed Dawn. Today is my day 17 for me in Bangladesh and I am taking you to one of the few swamp forests in the world that can be found in Bangladesh. Ratargul Swamp forest is also known the Amazon of Bangladesh and is located 26 km from Sylhet city. This freshwater swamp forest covers a 33,000-acre area of wetland and has also been declared an animal sanctuary. The forest is submerged about 30 feet in the rainy season and about 10 feet for the rest of the year. 73 species of plants and a variety of animals make this forest their home and 80 percent of the forest area is covered by the treetop or natural tree umbrella . Temperature can run 12 to 32 degrees Celsius from winter to summer. Heavy tropical rainfall averages 4000 millimetre per year. July is the highest rainfall month when 1250 mm rainfall can occur in just one month. There is a watch town in the middle of the swamp forest to enjoy an aerial view of this rare swamp forest.
