NED University Leads the Innovation in Autonomous Vehicles The National Center for Artificial Intelligence (NCAI) at NED University of Engineering and Technology is spearheading this groundbreaking initiative. Engineers involved claim that no other institution in Pakistan is currently engaged in developing driverless cars using AI. NED University is set to become the first university in Pakistan to test an autonomous vehicle on the roads, with the initial test drive expected within the next six months. Imported Electric Car Being Transformed into an Autonomous Vehicle To bring this project to life, a specialized electric car has been imported from China. The research team is integrating advanced AI tools to convert it into a fully autonomous vehicle. Significant Progress in Software & Real-Time Vehicle Control The project’s director, Associate Professor Dr. Muhammad Khurram, shared in an exclusive conversation: "We are making rapid advancements towards real-time vehicle control. Our engineers have achieved remarkable progress in data control and software development. We are optimistic that within six months, we will be conducting a successful test drive on NED University’s roads." Advanced AI & Robotics Technology Powering the Project The project incorporates artificial intelligence and robotics to enhance vehicle performance. Engineers have successfully completed the mapping phase, enabling the car to recognize: ✅ Speed limits ✅ Objects and obstacles ✅ Lane detection Additionally, signal light recognition and steering control are under development, with all features currently being tested in virtual simulations.
