In The Money’s Peter Thomas Fornatale (PTF) is joined by Nick Tammaro to take a look back at the wild weekend of horse racing at Saratoga. They talk about the sensational victory by Sovereignty in the 2025 Belmont Stakes, where he cemented his superiority over 2025 Preakness Stakes winner Journalism while also stamping himself as the top 3-year-old in North America for hall of fame trainer Bill Mott and owner Godolphin. PTF and Tammaro also reflect on the buckets of stakes action over the weekend of the 2025 Belmont Stakes Festival at Saratoga, ranging from the dynamite showing by Cherie DeVaux’s She Feels Pretty in the 2025 New York Stakes on Friday to the massive upset by La Cara in the 2025 DK Horse Acorn Stakes, where she bested and snapped the unbeaten record of 2025 Kentucky Oaks champion Good Cheer, to the dramatic events of Belmont Saturday including the stakes races moved to Sunday (June 8th) and the other stakes taken off the turf. Friday’s racing featured many other surprises, including Dorth Vader’s upset over Raging Sea in the 2025 Ogden Phipps Stakes and Dynamic Pricing winning at long odds in the 2025 Just A Game Stakes. But the undercard of the 2025 Belmont Stakes Festival at Saratoga featured as many surprises as the Friday card showed, such as Raging Torrent emerged on top in the 2025 Met Mile, defeating crown staples Fierceness and 2025 Pegasus World Cup champion White Abarrio. Sunday’s card then featured a pair of washed-out stakes from Belmont Day, the 2025 Jaipur Stakes and the 2025 Manhattan Stakes. AG Bullet grabbed the victory in the Jaipur, but the nightcap of the Sunday card proved the most emotional when Deterministic rolled going gate to wire to wrap the Belmont meeting at Saratoga with a win by Miguel Clement, who overtook the stable of his father Christophe Clement after Christophe passed away from a battle with cancer a few weeks ago. And thus ends the 2025 Triple Crown trail – a year where we maybe could have seen a Triple Crown winner. But it may at least also be a year that could have some solid match ups through the summer in races like the 2025 Haskell Stakes and the 2025 Travers Stakes or also a throwdown at Del Mar in the fall for the 2025 Breeders’ Cup Classic.
