#stephenking #Christine #johncarpenter A labor of love, much like Arnie's fixing-up of a certain demon vehicle. Props to Keith Gordon for turning in a virtuoso performance, to Dennis (John Stockwell) & Leigh (Alexandra Paul) and the great John Carpenter. Preface: Recently, I enjoyed immensely the audiobook of Stephen King's classic horror tale read by Holter Graham, which I highly recommend. The novel goes into further detail about the possession of Arnie by the ghost of Roland LeBay, which was reduced in the film to strictly attribute the possession to the Plymouth Fury. Therefore, in this tribute, I wanted to add intonations here and there that pay homage to SK's brilliant story by alluding to those story elements that unfortunately did not make the final cut of the 1983 film. To achieve this, I used deleted scenes footage and several audio samples. How Dennis went from being Arnie's sworn protector, to feeling completely exhausted by trying to save his best friend from this demonic possession, until he openly defies Arnie with teen angst, jealous of how his friend got the hottest girl in school to date him, only to squander it due to the possession. Other notes: *how Arnie's parents felt a lot of guilt for not letting Arnie keep the demon car at their house, how it led to Christine's revenge against the bullies, and to Arnie's self-destruction, how his mother checks on him during his night terrors. One thing lost in the film is Arnie's struggle with the dual personality, and I wanted that to shine through with Arnie's outburst in Dennis' car, which I feel is one of the most important parts in the story, and also very sad. *how Arnie's behavior changed during his visits to Dennis in the hospital, to the point of him outright insulting his best friend, now being completely engulfed by the hateful, selfish spirit of LeBay There's probably more that I meant to include, and hopefully did, but it's late. Most of all, I thought adding three segments that showed the theme and structure of the book from three different perspectives (Dennis & Leigh, Arnie & LeBay) would be a nice touch. I used four (technically five) songs by Stages & Stereos: Love is Wasted on the Young, Lust is your Lifestyle, Too Close for Comfort & We All Make Mistakes (featuring Living Without You). I also wanted to include Dion & the Belmonts' I Wonder Why and Mickey Gilley's Make the World Go Away for further emphasis on those allusions. "Rest in peace, Arnie. I love you, man."-Dennis Guilder Enjoy! In the same way that I also hope we'll soon all enjoy the remake, fingers crossed. I wish they would cast Mr. Gordon as LeBay this time around, as a way to pay homage to the timeless curse of Christine, but also a way to illustrate Arnie's ghost, i.e. LeBay's ghost. Make it happen, S.K.! =)
