Hey all, I've been wanting to try this technique out since getting into noise music over the last couple of years. I had heard people mention a Japanese chap called Merzbow and one day I stumbled across the second episode of a Podcast called Merzcast (discussing Merzbow records exclusively to begin with, but then it became the awesome Noisextra podcast delving into all things noise - check it out) and my education began. Noise was not my thing to begin with, a lot of it was far too harsh for me, but I really admired the techniques, the improvisation and the incredible sounds these artists created - whether it be using effects pedals, field recordings, amplified bits of metal or in one particular recording, a bulldozer - yes a bulldozer, which was basically used to trash a venue (the artist was Hanatarash if you want to check them out). Over the last couple of years of listening and checking different noise acts out I've definitely learned to appreciate it a lot more - artists like Daniel Menche, Incapacitants, Scott Arford, Aube, MSBR, and Crawl Unit have all become influential to me. Back to the video - a common technique used by many noise artists is no input feedback loops, where you simply plug a bunch of pedals in a loop, so their pure sound goes round and round feedbacking into each other. This creates crazy walls of noise, distortion, feedback squeals, and all sorts of various other worldly sounds, which get crazier the more they loop round and the more you manipulate it with the pedals. So here's an experiment I tried the other day, only using a couple of delays and a reverb pedal - I was super chuffed with the results, and it is definitely something I shall be looking into using more in the future on recordings and in a live setting. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I did making it, and as always, I'll drop a link at the bottom of this description to a FREE DOWNLOAD of the track on my Bandcamp page. Cheers for checking it out, Rob. https://rorquals.bandcamp.com/track/a...
