Beautiful Shirred Waist V-Neck Baby Frock Cutting and Stitching | DIY Very Easy Baby Frock For Beginners Hey everyone! Welcome back to [ Savita DIY ]. In today’s tutorial, I’ll be showing you how to make a gorgeous shirred waist ruffle V-neck baby frock. This project is perfect for beginners, so let’s get started! Materials Needed: • Fabric (1 yard for a baby frock) • Matching thread • Elastic thread • Scissors • Measuring tape • Pins • Sewing machine • Iron Step 1: Measuring and Cutting the Fabric 1. Measure your baby’s chest, waist, and desired frock length. 2. Cut the fabric into the following pieces: • Bodice: 2 pieces (front and back), each 12 inches wide by 10 inches long • Skirt: 1 piece, 24 inches wide by 15 inches long • Ruffles: 2 strips, each 3 inches wide by 20 inches long • Straps: 2 strips, each 2 inches wide by 12 inches long Step 2: Preparing the Bodice 1. Fold each bodice piece in half lengthwise and mark the center. 2. On the front bodice piece, cut a V-shape for the neckline. 3. Hem the edges of the V-neck by folding the fabric twice and sewing it down. Step 3: Creating the Shirred Waist 1. On the back bodice piece, mark horizontal lines 1 inch apart. 2. Wind the bobbin with elastic thread. 3. Sew along the marked lines to create the shirred effect. Remember to backstitch at the start and end. Step 4: Assembling the Bodice 1. With right sides together, sew the front and back bodice pieces at the side seams. 2. Press the seams open. Step 5: Attaching the Skirt 1. Gather the top edge of the skirt piece by sewing two parallel lines of long stitches and pulling the threads. 2. Pin the gathered skirt to the bottom of the bodice, right sides together. 3. Sew the skirt to the bodice and remove any gathering stitches. Step 6: Adding the Ruffles 1. Hem one long edge of each ruffle strip. 2. Gather the other long edge by sewing two parallel lines of long stitches and pulling the threads. 3. Pin the gathered ruffles to the neckline and V-neck, right sides together, and sew them down. Step 7: Making and Attaching the Straps 1. Fold each strap piece in half lengthwise, right sides together, and sew along the long edge. 2. Turn the straps right side out and press them flat. 3. Pin the straps to the inside of the bodice, trying it on your baby for correct placement, and sew them securely. Step 8: Finishing Touches 1. Hem the bottom of the skirt by folding it twice and sewing it down. 2. Give the frock a final press with an iron to make it look crisp and neat. And there you have it!
