The resort has been vacant for about 10 years, and the Marshalls Creek fire chief says no utilities were hooked up. The fire chief called in the alarm around 7 p.m. after he spotted heavy smoke in the area while he was responding to a car crash nearby on Interstate 80. "I drove past the main end building. There was heavy smoke showing in the parking lot towards the right side of the structure. I saw heavy fire showing through the rear, and we made an attack from the exterior to interior and came out to the front side, but it was fully engulfed," said Chief Joe Luisi, Marshalls Creek Fire Department.
