Jefferson’s Bourbon has launched Jefferson’s Reserve Single Barrel which is bottled at 50% ABV/100 Proof. Jefferson's, while not quite an independent bottler, is known for its innovative approach to maturing whiskey as they seek out new and aged barrels of bourbon from established distilleries. Then they, according to their distillery team, build balance and add complexity through different selection, agitation, and environmental processes until they find the taste Jefferson’s is now known for. Jefferson's new single barrel program is bottled at a higher proof than the traditional Jefferson's Reserve (45% ABV). The higher proof enhances the Reserve experience by bringing out the otherwise muted secondary flavors like cinnamon toast, baked apple, leather and tobacco, sorghum, and nutmeg are said to be able to shine through the spirit. Jefferson’s Reserve Single Barrel 100 Proof is available at an MSRP of $59.99. This is a unique release from Jefferson’s, which is known for its collection of bourbons made in small batches while this Single Barrel is a Very Small Batch Bourbon. While we have our own opinion on this bottle, here is what the distillery says about it: NOSE: Leather, humidor and sorghum (or fried apple pie). FLAVOR: Cinnamon toast, toffee, brown sugar. FINISH: A long finish with a hint of spice "Trey decided to offer Jefferson’s Reserve, our most quintessential bourbon in the portfolio, at a higher proof to satisfy the thirst of a bigger more robust Reserve offering. This expression enhances the flavors without being too strong. The single barrel allows the Jefferson’s Reserve flavors to be amplified at the enhanced proof.
