Dr. Lyngdoh, a retired chemistry professor and music composer, and Minette, a music teacher and pianist, inspire us with their passion and commitment. Listen to their wonderful conversation on this new episode of HILL TALK to hear about their work and contributions to society. It's rocking! SHORT BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES Dr Richard H. Duncan Lyngdoh, son of (Late) David W. M. Duncan and Thanchhumi Duncan, was born in May 1958 at Shillong. He is a retired professor of chemistry who served for nearly 35 years at North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong. His schooling was at Mt. Hermon’s School (Darjeeling), Tashi Namgyal Academy (Gangtok) and at St. Edmund’s School (Shillong). He passed the Indian School Certificate in 1974, where he scored 80 % or above in five core subjects. He completed the B.Sc. Chemistry (Hons) course from St. Edmund’s College (Shillong) in 1979 as a gold medallist. He completed the M.Sc. Chemistry course from NEHU in 1981 as a gold medallist, after which he taught chemistry at Pachhunga University College (Aizawl) for a period. Having obtained the Ph.D. degree in 1990 from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, he joined the NEHU faculty to engage in teaching, administration, and research, having published over 60 research papers, with 19 of his scholars successfully completing the Ph.D. degree from NEHU. His interests lie in the fields of computational chemistry, music, linguistics, religion, history, and philately. He has composed some 240 pieces of vocal and instrumental music. Dr Duncan Lyngdoh married Miss Minette Marbaniang Sawian in May 1989, and they have one daughter, Dr Lashynna Duncan Marbaniang, who is married to Dr Reuel P. Nongrum with two children. He resides in Nongkseh Village, Shillong, with his wife, mother, and daughter’s family. His current interests lie in carrying out research for some more time, teaching and composing music, writing on faith and religion, and serving the church and society as an elder of the Nongkseh Presbyterian Church. Minette Duncan Marbaniang (formerly Marbaniang Sawian) is the eldest daughter of Mr H. A. D. Sawian (IAS, retired) and Mrs Bibimai Marbaniang. She was born in February 1963 at Akola, Maharashtra. Most of her early life was spent at Mumbai. However, she has lived part of her life at Shillong when her father served in Shillong in the Govt. of Meghalaya and later as Secretary, North Eastern Council, Govt. of India. Her schooling was completed at Fort Convent, Mumbai, and she passed Pre-University Arts from NEHU, Shillong, in 1981. Her life has been devoted to teaching music, where she specialises in teaching pianoforte playing as well as theory of music. She has successfully completed the ATCL and LTCL Diplomas in Pianoforte Performance from Trinity College, London. Her students range from young beginners to those sitting for Diploma examinations from Trinity College, London. She has had students who have successfully completed Pianoforte Performance at the Grade Eight and Diploma levels. She married Dr R. H. Duncan Lyngdoh in May 1989 and resides at Nongkseh, 3rd Mile, Upper Shillong. Together with her husband and her daughter Lashynna, she is engaged in teaching and directing programmes at the newly founded Harmini Music Academy at Laitumkhrah, Shillong.
