Jerry Lee Lewis September 1957 Sun Records (EP) 45rpm standard single EPA 107 mono JERRY LEE LEWIS - THE GREAT BALL OF FIRE Jerry Lee Lewis first seven-inch Sun 45rpm Extended Play album and has a paper picture sleeve in red and featuring the image of Jerry Lee Lewis with his burning piano. On the back cover liner notes, written by Sun's promotion assistant Barbara Barnes: You've just got hear Jerry Lee Lewis to know what he's like! He defies comparison to any other singer-pianist in the history of show business, because his way of getting into the heart of a song and interpreting it from the inside out is uniquely Jerry Lee. This 21-year-old, originally from Ferriday, La., and now from Memphis, is absolutely spontaneous in hos showmanship. When he sings, it's with abandon and enthusiasm, and the way he gives himself to a song makes the outcome so personal it's almost embarrassing. Whether he is performing for the microphone alone, or thousands of people, Jerry Lee on a fantastic performance! He likes to play and sing almost anything – from rock and roll to spirituals and in each type song his magnetism is inescapable. This electrifying element that pulls and holds audiences was given witness to by a fan, who wrote, ''I play your record over and over until the record player gets too hot. Then I take it over to a neighbor's house, and we play it some more''. Jerry Lee's individuality as an utterly natural almost native, singer is most strongly felt in this album on ''Mean Woman Blues''. Rounding out the foursome are Jerry Lee's biggest hits to date, ''A Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On'' and two blues ballads, ''I'm Feeling Sorry'' and ''Turn Around''.
