Over the past 60 years, residents and businesses on Captiva have been working hard to improve and reinforce the health of the Captiva beaches by a series of projects aimed at preventing structural damage to the beach created by any number of factors such as ever-changing tides, wave forces and the 2004/05 hurricane seasons. Captiva’s Beaches have been undergoing some work and a beach nourishment project was started on August 24, 2021. The CEPD has been transporting 750,000 cubic yards of sand from a borrow site located 6 miles offshore to our beaches. That’s nearly 2 billion pounds of sand!
