The new STIHL HSA 140 and HSA 150 are the most powerful battery-powered hedge trimmers in the STIHL AP System of battery tools and come with a large range of options within each model series. These new cordless hedge trimmers are designed for professional landscapers and are comparable in performance with their petrol-powered counterparts. In the case of the HSA 140 hedge trimmer with the dual sided cutter bar, it’s comparable to the well-renowned HS 82 petrol hedge trimmer. The STIHL HSA 150 battery hedge trimmer, featuring a single-sided cutter bar, is comparable to the equally well-renowned HS 87 petrol hedge trimmer. They are also 30% more powerful than the previous HSA 130 battery powered hedge trimmer due to the new 650 watt motor. With professional petrol hedge trimmers there has always been a choice of T (trimming) versions with a higher blade speed or R (rough cut) versions with a lower blade speed, and it’s the same with our new battery powered hedge trimmer models too – plus different bar lengths as well. The T version of the STIHL HSA 140 or HSA 150 comes with 30mm tooth spacing, which is best suited to ornamental or fine leaf hedges such as taxus, buxus or privet, where a particularly neat, accurate and sharp finish is needed. The high RPM delivers a fine cut and doesn’t allow too much material to drop into the cutters. It is adjustable between 3 RPM levels too so you can pick the level best suited to the topiary; whether that be 3,900, 4,500 or 5,000 RPM. The R versions of the HSA 140 and HSA 150 with a wider 38mm tooth spacing are best suited to annual pruning or hedge reduction work where a lower RPM is needed to allow thicker branch material to enter the cutters. Once again, the R versions are adjustable between 3 RPM levels, so you can pick between 2,800, 3,000 or 3,200 RPM depending on the hedge you’re working on. With a battery slot in the tool, you have a choice of slotting in a STIHL AP System battery or running an AP battery from a waist belt if you want to reduce weight on the tool. With the recommended STIHL AP 200 S battery, which is the lightest in the STIHL AP battery range, you can get 100-150 minutes of working time on the R models or 90-140 minutes on the T models. However, if you need more working time, you can use one of our larger batteries. These new cordless hedge trimmers, as well as all STIHL AP System tools, have been designed with the best ergonomics for you. With the recommended STIHL AP 200 S battery the tools are 1)2)working with the tools as straightforward as possible. It also means there’s no bulky battery exposed on the back of the tool as it’s neatly tucked away and protected. As these battery hedge trimmers are designed for taming hedges of all shapes and sizes, they have a rotating rear handle so you can pull the lever and twist the handle to make it either best suited to the top or the side of the hedge you’re cutting. All the controls are designed to make it comfortable and easy to activate whatever position you are trimming in. All hedge trimmer models have an anti-jamming function so if the cutters get stuck on thicker branches that should have been cut with a pair of loppers, the tool will help release the jam. When you release the trigger and then pull it again, the blades will move in the opposite direction. We’ve designed a new gearbox system for these hedge trimmers, which works in perfect harmony with the EC motor to deliver an extremely high cutting force and quick acceleration to the required blade speed.
