Zoom recording of Mr. Lawrence's lecture titled "Global Investing" on 27 February 2021. Mr. Lawrence is the Chairman and Executive Director of The Overlook Group (“Overlook”), which was established in 1991. Overlook is an independent fund management company whose goal is to invest in public equity markets throughout Asia, excluding Japan. In 2016, Overlook established Overlook 3G Investments, L.P., a single purpose investment partnership, to invest in shares of China Yangtze Power Company, Ltd. Today, Overlook manages over US$6.0 billion in net assets. The Partnership’s successful 30-year history is based on the consistent execution of The Overlook Model (“Model”). Mr. Lawrence graduated from South Kent School in 1974 and Brown University in 1978 with a degree in Economics. From 1978 to 1981, he was a financial analyst for the Organization Diego Cisneros, a conglomerate based in Caracas, Venezuela. From 1981 to 1984, he was vice-president of J. Bush & Company, Inc., a NYSE member firm, responsible for equity research. He moved to Asia in 1984 and was a founding vice-president of First Pacific Special Assets (FPSAL), a Hong Kong Stock Exchange listed company that invested in undervalued assets throughout the Asia-Pacific region. In 1986, Mr. Lawrence became one of the first Chartered Financial Analysts in Asia. When FPSAL was sold, he established Overlook. Mr. Lawrence and his family have worked for the past 20 years in Honduras, first with the OCHO Project, which leads an annual medical mission in rural Santa Barbara Province, and for the past 16 years, as founder and director of Proyecto Mirador, a non-profit organization that has built close to 200,000 fuel efficient stoves in rural communities across Honduras, and more recently, Nicaragua and Guatemala. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the National Audubon Society. Mr. Lawrence will discuss the business and investment philosophies that have comprised the backbone of Overlook Investments’ success over the past 30 years. He will review in detail many of the core value investment concepts and provide real world examples that will help bring these concepts to life. It is his hope that his talk will provide listeners with a framework with which to evaluate stocks.
