In this video, Dr. G — clinical and forensic psychologist and body language expert — dissects Donna Adelson’s conduct during the sentencing hearing after her conviction in the Dan Markel murder-for-hire case. Adelson, 75, stood before the judge in a purple jumpsuit, shackled, and delivered a statement claiming her innocence. As Judge Stephen Everett interrupted her several times, he criticized the tone of her remarks and explicitly noted what he perceived as an “utter lack of remorse.” She was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for first-degree murder, with an additional 30 years for conspiracy and solicitation to be served consecutively. Donna Adelson, now 75, was tried on charges of first-degree murder, conspiracy, and solicitation in connection with the 2014 execution-style killing of her former son-in-law, Dan Markel. Prosecutors argued she conspired with her son, Charlie, and other intermediaries to hire gunmen, motivated by a fierce custody dispute between Markel and her daughter, Wendi. Throughout the trial, the State introduced emails, testimony from family members (including Wendi), and communications to show Adelson’s involvement in strategizing the plot. Adelson chose not to testify in her own defense, and the defense framed the case around lack of direct evidence linking her to the murder scheme and shifted greater responsibility to others already convicted. After roughly two weeks of testimony and closing arguments, the jury returned a verdict finding Donna Adelson guilty on all counts. The next step is her sentencing, where she faces life in prison for the murder charge plus additional penalties for the related conspiracy and solicitation counts. Dr. G examines Adelson’s emotional presentation— her voice shifts, her expressions align to match the words, but her affect feels restricted. While declaring that she “would’ve stopped it” if she had known any plot in advance, she challenged the state’s evidence and questioned the credibility of who is labeled the “mastermind.” By contrasting those cues with documented patterns of genuine vs staged emotional displays, Dr. G argues Adelson’s statement was more show than sorrow. The hidden signals of posture freeze, jaw tightness, and momentary internal conflict suggest a strategic emotional display rather than raw remorse. If you want to follow along visually, Dr. G highlights specific frames in the video where Adelson tries to mask irritation, recast guilt, and maintain control over her performance in the courtroom. #bodylanguage #donnaadelson #danmarkel ------------------------ Visit my website: www.drgexplains.com ------------------------ Dr. G is a clinical and forensic psychologist.
