P. Senrayaperumal, a folk artiste from Soolapuram village near Madurai, is fighting a legal battle with Manonmaniam Sundaranar University. The 43-year-old was appointed as assistant professor at the University’s Department of History through the SC(A) quota in 2016. But after eight years in academia, he heard about letters sent to other departments questioning his ‘irregular education’. On March 13, 2024, he received a letter informing him of his removal from service without any discussion.
