Is Windows copied from Mac OS ? Computer history Sinhala Microsoft try to copy Apple from its entire history, but this effort for copying make changes for entire world. In computer history, till 1970 there are no GUI ( graphical user interface) computers, that mean humans had to enter their commands via CLI interface, ( command line interface) That’s a not easy task and it’s not suitable for everyone, so in this time Apple introduced their first GUI based computer called LISA. After that Microsoft copied it, then they introduced Windows 1.0 just like Apple Lisa system, You can learn more of that interesting story about how Microsoft bill gates steal ideas from apple and how he grow his company wealth from stealing ideas from Steve Jobs , but when Apple face to near bankruptcy, bill gates help to saving apple , it’s a amazing thing, if it’s not happened today we haven’t any Apple products, Ya it’s a business deal but it’s beneficial for both Microsoft and Apple companies, If you are a ICT student, or studying information communication technology , you will be hear about GUI , graphical user interface and CLI command line interface. This is the Story you never heard about GUI battle in computer history in Sinhala . So watch it and you will amazed how computer history develop over decades Time Stamps 00:00 - Is Windows copied from Mac OS 00:54 - CLI Command Line Interface 01:39 - Xerox GUI 02:49 - Ball Mouse 04:19 - Stealing From Apple 06:18 - GUI Battle 08:00 - Apple Bankruptcy 08:46 - Saving Apple 09:44 - Microsoft copy again and again Microsoft did not have a GUI system until Apple released theirs. Microsoft was sued by Apple for using many concepts unique to Apple’s GUI prior to Windows. So, Apple’s implementation was certainly an inspiration to Microsoft. But, if we consider the inspiration, then Xerox is responsible for the popularization of the GUI. But inspiration is not enough. Apple certainly had more GUI based computers than Microsoft for a few years, and one could use that as proof that Apple is the reaponsible party. But, all Macintosh computer shipped only with a GUI, whereas Microsoft systems were console based (DOS) and had to be upgraded to run a GUI. Microsoft based systems were also the vast majority of installed desktops throughout the world. About the time Windows was being recognized, there were other Macintosh clones in the wild, but they were small players, such as some Atari computers, the Amiga, and other less popular systems. Although not true clones, they were almost direct copies of the GUI from the Macintosh / Lisa. And like the Macintosh, shipped with a GUI as part of the native OS. Of all these systems, the largest install base, and largest hurdle jumper to the GUI was Microsoft. Since popularity is based on numbers, I attribute Microsoft as being responsible for popularizing the GUI. But I credit Apple as the inspiration, and to a lesser degree Xerox, for inspiring Apple to think differently.
