We spent 24 hours in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, AKA - OKC! After driving in the night before and staying at a hotel near downtown, we started the morning by watching the sunrise at Lake Hefner. Only 10 minutes from Downtown, this gorgeous lake was a pleasant surprise, complete with a working lighthouse! Once the sun was fully up, we wanted to visit the iconic Plaza Walls - 30+ muraled and skillfully graffitied walls in Plaza District early before it was filled with cars and other people. The key to mural hunting along with getting the best photos - go early! The Wheeler District is one of the more recently developed areas of OKC, very close to downtown and right off the Oklahoma River. While it often hosts yoga, markets, and picnics, it's known for its giant OKC letters and a huge ferris wheel! Time for brunch - we LOVED the Jones Assembly. Home to many exciting concerts and shows, Jones Assembly also offers elevated comfort food in a modern, trendy dining experience while being in one of the oldest buildings in OKC. One stop we knew we wanted to make was to the OKC National Memorial. We spent about 30 minutes to pause and reflect on the tragic events that took place on April 19, 1995. Learn more about what happened here: https://www.fbi.gov/history/famous-ca... Other highlights of the afternoon include visiting Commonplace Books in Midtown, Ends of the Earth Coffee near downtown, and exploring the Bricktown District - home to OKC Dodgers, trolleys, water taxis, and entertainment. Before heading out, we went back to the Plaza District for a quick dinner at Mexican Radio then walked off the tacos at the beautiful Scissortail Park near downtown. OKC was a pleasant surprise! This affordable, approachable destination in the midwest had so much to offer - art, parks, culture, history, and delicious food.
