Until grade three, Prof. Dr. RP Chaudhary went to school carrying a straw mat (borā ko chakati) from home to sit on during classes. He was always first in his class. Later, he became Nepal’s very first specialist in pediatric surgery. He was born in a farming family; the son of a landlord, and the eldest among five siblings. His father, who had completed matriculation (equivalent to today’s SEE), strongly encouraged him to study and become a doctor. Inspired by that guidance, he fulfilled the dream—not only becoming the first doctor from his village but also Nepal’s first pediatric surgeon. About Guest : Prof. Dr. Ramnandan Prasad (R.P.) Chaudhary is Nepal’s first pediatric surgeon and a pioneer in children’s surgical care. He completed his MBBS from Calcutta University, MS in Pediatric Surgery from Bangladesh, and later earned international recognition with FICS from the USA. Serving over two decades at Kanti Children’s Hospital, he laid the foundation of pediatric surgery in Nepal and later became Medical Director of Ishan Children & Women’s Hospital, where he led groundbreaking surgeries including rare and complex newborn cases. A mentor to many, he has helped train the next generation of pediatric surgeons and continues to serve as a leader in professional organizations such as FAPSS, ICS, and the Nepal Burn Society.
