The September 2025 Specials (The Cumbrian Mountain, The Lune Rivers Trust, The Shap Mountaineer)

On the 200th anniversary of public railway operations, I set out early to catch two of the day's three special express services which would pass through the North West of England. Today's locations are the historic city of Lancaster, the famous 'Brief Encounter' station of Carnforth, and the gateway that is Carlisle. Sadly the Ulster Express (Barking - Morecambe) was cancelled; but I was able to catch The Shap Mountaineer and The Lune Rivers Trust specials along with the preceding week's Cumbrian Mountain Express. This had been doubled headed by two class 37s before being handed over to the class 86 at Preston.
