As you’ll see examples in this video, some romance movies feature New Age themes, occult practices, soulmate mythology, and “follow your heart” messaging that can normalize unbiblical spirituality and subtly shape how we view love and marriage. Romance movies are fun entertainment, but not those movies that are Trojan horses ushering in deception. In this video, we examine how modern romance films promote shamanism, yoga spirituality, mindfulness meditation, fortune telling, crystal ball psychics, magical love objects, and wish-granting imagery. What’s often presented as whimsical or harmless is rooted in spiritual concepts that God’s Word clearly warns against (Deuteronomy 18:10–12). We also look at common romance tropes such as missing the true meaning of Christmas, love at first sight, emotional escapism, rescue fantasies, whirlwind engagements, and deceptive identity storylines. Over time, these themes can train viewers to expect emotional intensity, impulsiveness, and romantic destiny rather than covenant faithfulness. Most concerning of all, many romance stories subtly elevate relationships into saviors. Yet Scripture teaches that Christ alone saves, and that love is patient, enduring, and grounded in truth (1 Corinthians 13:4-7). When entertainment defines love instead of God’s Word, relationships can quietly become idols of the heart. This video features romance movie clips to illustrate the points and interviews with pastors and a Christian movie director, where they discuss how watching romance movies may affect marriages and the way that romance movies handle Christmas.
