In this video, we will take you through the streets of Kyoto, which are said to be shaped like a checkerboard. I ride my bike (and walk where I can't) at a leisurely pace. I hope to be able to show you around the city along the way. Please take your time to take a look. Teramachi-dori North-south street that stretches from Kyoto's Kita Ward to Shimogyo Ward, and was originally located at the eastern end of the city during the Heian-kyo period (Higashi Kyogoku Oji). The name comes from the fact that temples were gathered on the eastern side of Kyoto as a result of Toyotomi Hideyoshi's urban remodeling, and the street was named "Teramachi-dori" as it passed in front of them. Today, it runs along the east side of Kyoto Gyoen National Garden and is known as an area lined with many historical temples. It is also a popular tourist destination, and is a cultural street lined with second-hand bookstores and souvenir shops.
