Royal Navy expands deployment of DragonFire laser weapons to four warships

TDragonFire directed energy weapon to be fitted to four Royal Navy warships by 2027 In her Spring Statement to Parliament today, the Chancellor will announce a modest increase of funding for defence, part of which will enable the RN to advance its plans for fitting the DragonFire laser weapon. The new funding injection is described as a “downpayment” on the longer-term commitment to spend 2.5% of GDP on defense by 2027. Although woefully inadequate, given the rising threat and diminishing reliability of US support for NATO, this new money is further evidence the Government is trying to address the situation. The £2.2Bn will be used to procure advanced defense technologies that can deliver effects on the frontline relatively rapidly. Part of the new funding will also be used to improve accommodation for forces personnel and families, an important step in addressing the retention crisis that is so corrosive. . .
