He scored 8 wins, 9 podiums and 3 pole positions to come in 2nd at the end of year. The title went to Steve Hislop, also on a 998. The year after, Rutter again raced a Renegade 998 to wind up third in the championship, the title going to Shane Byrne… once more on a 998. Rutter was even more successful in real road racing. On this Renegade machine, he won the infamous Macau Grand Prix in 2002 and 2003. He was also victorious in the 2003 North West 200 on the same bike. Rutter is the most successful rider ever at Macau.
