Conservation research through a veterinary hospital | Baukje Lenting | TEDxVUW

Baukje Lenting is the senior veterinarian at The Nest Te Kōhanga, the veterinary hospital at Wellington Zoo. Wildlife hospitals like The Nest Te Kōhanga can achieve great conservation outcomes and scientific research by collecting and analysing the wildlife data accumulated annually from treating hundreds of individual wildlife patients, and using this data to help advise on individual and population health of our native species, and potentially environmental and human health also. Wildlife health and the contributions that wildlife health can make to the field of “One Health” and conservation are important. And also important is getting our communities and people of all ages and walks of life interested in science, wildlife, and conservation, because conservation is a broad field, and requires much collaboration.
