This breaks up light falling on each ring into two parts, one focused for distance vision and the other one focused for near vision. Coupled with the technology that corrects optical imperfections (aberrations) in the eye, which develops with age, the lens gives a superior focus of light on retina. Technically this is called improved contrast sensitivity and in layman terms, it means better and sharper vision in low-light conditions.
