I first mentioned this problem in my BMW X7 Common Issues video, and now my car has finally started showing symptoms. In this video, I’ll walk you through the full DIY process of changing the transfer case fluid step by step, from lifting the car and removing underbody panels to draining, refilling, and performing the transfer box calibration with a scan tool (Can be done with ISTA+). This is an important maintenance job that can sometimes fix jerking, skipping, or binding issues without having to replace the entire transfer case (a very expensive repair). If you’ve already checked your tires and still have this issue, changing the transfer case fluid might be the solution.
