This time I'll be in touch from Florence (Firenze), the beautiful city in Tuscany in Italy. I walk through the streets of Florence and I like to take you on my virtual walking tour. Florence is famous for its history. As the center of late medieval European trade and finance, it was one of the richest cities of the 15th and 16th centuries. Florence is considered the cradle of the Renaissance. Due to its cultural significance - especially for the visual arts - it was also known as the "Italian Athens" as early as the 19th century. In terms of inhabitants, it is the eighth largest city in Italy. Florence is the capital and largest city of the Tuscany region and the metropolitan city of Florence, which is home to around one million people. Florence lies on the Arno, which flows through the old town, and on the Mugnone, which flows into the Arno from the north west of the old town.
