Let’s Go Birding at High Island and Bolivar Flats

In November, a group of Coastal Ornithology students from Texas A&M Galveston took a field trip to Smith Oaks Bird Sanctuary and Bolivar Flats Shorebird Sanctuary! We covered a lot of topics including outreach in the conservation field, the importance of High Island for birds, the breeding seasons for Neotropic Cormorants, and the efforts to save Bolivar Flats from further development. At Bolivar Flats, we saw a variety of shorebirds, including Piping Plovers and Sanderlings. We loved being able to share the beauty and importance of these spaces with the students.
