Śrī Sukta is very popular because it is used in the worship of Śrī Lakṣmī, the goddess of wealth and prosperity. However it does not address Lakṣmī as merely the goddess of wealth and as the consort of Śrī Nārayan. It is a prayer to the Divine Mother of the cosmos. She is seen as the very power behind the sun and the moon. She is also identified with Agni or fire. Here, we begin with an invocation to Mahāgaṇapati to remove any obstacles before our worship to Mahālakṣmī begins. It is said that the full benefit of chanting this Vedic Suktam is unlocked in reciting the Phala Sruti as well. Please be patient when learning to chant - the benefits may come quickly but they also may not.
