Eight witnesses into Day 1 and the jury still hasn't heard a single piece of evidence about what Colin Gray actually did. Jacqueline Garcia is the mother of 15-year-old Melanie, who was shot in the left shoulder inside Coach Ryan's classroom at Apalachee High School. Garcia was working at a daycare directly across the street when the shooting started. She had three children inside that school. She's also the mother of Jayen, the student whose 911 call the jury heard earlier today. Garcia answered Melanie's phone call thinking everything was fine. What her daughter told her changed everything. The prosecution played nearly 10 minutes of Officer Orango's body camera footage showing parents arriving at the school, screaming, crying, trying to push past the police line. Garcia is on that footage. Watch what she does before she learns about Melanie, and what happens after. The defense asks no questions. This is the last witness of Day 1. Ask yourself: after everything the jury just watched today, what do they know about Colin Gray's actions? ⏰ KEY MOMENTS 00:09 - Garcia is sworn in and explains she had three children at Apalachee 02:54 - Working across the street on September 4th, learns something is happening 05:55 - Calls her children and starts accounting for each one 09:01 - Melanie finally calls and Garcia answers expecting relief 10:23 - Garcia tries to push past the police line to reach her daughter 15:49 - Officer Orango's bodycam footage plays for the jury 28:33 - The emotional aftermath and what Melanie told her mother months later FROM THE DESK OF JUSTICE: https://www.justiceisaprocess.com/des... CASE BACKGROUND REPORT: https://www.justiceisaprocess.com/ga-... 📖 CASE BACKGROUND On September 4, 2024, a student opened fire at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, killing Mason Schermerhorn (14), Christian Angulo (14), Coach Ricky Aspinwall (39), and math teacher Cristina Irimie (53). Colin Gray, 54, was arrested the next day. Prosecutors allege he gave his son the murder weapon as a Christmas gift months after FBI agents visited their home about online threats. Georgia's second-degree murder statute is triggered through cruelty to children resulting in death, which is why only the two student victims carry murder charges. The teacher deaths fall under involuntary manslaughter. The defense has challenged the charges, the search warrant, and Colin Gray's interview statements. All motions were denied. This is only the third time in U.S. history a parent has been charged in connection with a school shooting. 📂 PLAYLISTS & RESOURCES 🌐 Website: https://justiceisaprocess.com ► Full Trial Live Broadcasts: • LIVE BROADCAST: GA v. Askin, a criminal defense attorney who was disbarred in 1998 for refusing to violate attorney-client privilege, then criminally convicted in 2010 for teaching people their constitutional rights from a coffee shop in Martinsburg, West Virginia. He passed away in February 2024, but not before he and I started this channel together. I am Steven M. Askin II. I am not an attorney. I am a watchdog. I cover criminal trials to educate the public about due process, the presumption of innocence, and constitutional protections. Every video on this channel is part of building the machine the system feared my father would create: a public trained to watch, question, and demand accountability. This is not entertainment. This is education. This is oversight.
