El singing / trying Venus (Shocking Blue, 1969)

El is the oldest daughter, born 1974, of African musician George Kofi Abunyewah (who passed away in 1984) and was sax player in famous Uhuru Dance Band, together with Ebo Taylor, also from Ghana and Pat Thomas from Togo. At that time music was very much supported by new government of Africas first decolonised country Ghana. And several talented musicians like Ebo Taylor and Pat Thomas were granted musical education in London or Berlin by the first president of Ghana (Kwame Nukruma) who tried to manifest as a visionary leader, backing and supporting freedom movements everywhere in Africa. In his vision good bands with skilled musicians were very helpful to unite opinions at more and more conferences of freed african countries to come. And so Ghana became the country of Highlife and great Afrobeat (until today). El, having grown up singing religious and gospel music in choirs, is meanwhile very much inspired by Western music and hopes sometimes to perform songs of Mariska Veres and Shocking Blue in a Cover or Tribute Band.
