30 Years at Portmeirion, a slideshow

This is just a slideshow of photos and postcards etc., dedicated to the lovely people at Portmeirion who have made our stays memorable over 30+ years. Success at photography depends on Competence (i.e. I am just a hack amateur), Opportunity (e.g. lots of visits and stays at Portmeirion) and Technology (slide film until 2007, digital after). This project was predicated by the discovery that our oldest slides were showing loss of pigment and other damage, so a year was spent triaging, scanning and processing (we have ~10k slides from our trips around the world). We then decided to include our digital photos and scans of postcards, leaflets, books and other paraphernalia and set it to music for own entertainment. The cameras used varied over the years starting with a manual focus Canon T90, followed by Canon EOS 1N, Canon EOS 5D, with additional shots taken with Canon G7, G9, SX40 and latterly an SX70. Some shots were taken by the children with a Vivitar 4000, which only takes 4:3 proportioned pictures. I have tried to crop as many photos to 16:9 to suit 4K full-screen resolution as possible, but some photos dis not suit that. We have unfortunately lost a large number of the older slides, which explains the paucity of photos from those earlier years. Many photos are only possible if you stay at Portmeirion, and only from certain locations. We have not stayed at every cottage or hotel room, but it is definitely worth the effort of getting there (we have never had a car and come by train from London) and spending the time, especially in the Gwyllt and on the beach at low tide. It is simply a fabulous place to stay, especially with children.
