Back in 2021, it was no brainer for Mercedes to sign george Russell. Otherwise, the talent like Russell would have been snatched by others. and With 7 time world champion Lewis Hamilton in the team, tagging Russell as the underdog was undebatable as well. That's why this is lewis Hamilton's car, and mercedes is Hamilton's team. the fact is: Russell has nothing to do with the development of this car except giving the usual feedback. But the core of this car has been developed from Hamilton's feedback and in all honesty, Hamilton deserves this privilege more than ever; because of what he has achieved through his hard work and determination. And it was great opportunity and experience for Russell to learn from the statistically greatest of all time. so, there's nothing much to add on this. Came 2022 season, where pre season was Disastrous for Mercedes. Nothing went well for mercedes and they were Miles behind ferrari and Redbull. So, they had no choice but to get on with what they have. So within the 2022 season, they have improved their car and in doing so, mercedes scored 1st 1 2 of the season in Brazil, which looked impossible at the start of the season. So, this will be strong foundation for them going into 2023. But the intra team rivalry is the most interesting one which of course is: what I am discussing in this video. As I mentioned before, Russell was the slamdunk underdogs of mercs. Well, against all odds, Russell was the consistent mercedes driver in 2022. He outscored Hamilton in 2022 and finished ahead of Hamilton in the standings at the end. I mean,to beat Hamilton in same car, probably is the toughest job in F1 to be honest. Not many has been able to do that. Barring 2011 and 2016, no one has ever beaten Hamilton in same car. Yeah. Not even mighty alonso. So, here we are. The youngster and prodigious talent like Russell has given Hamilton, the biggest run for his money. And in all honesty, this is the biggest achievement of Russell's career. There's no 2 ways about this. I mean to beat, one of the best ever, the top O G of f1 is just Mammoth. He will just get stronger and better from here on. This will also secure mercedes future for like another decade in one hand and on the other hand, mercedes might go with Russell in the development of car from 2023 onwards. So yeah, it will be interesting. Things will even get tastier if mercs develop championship challenger and both drivers fight equally on same terms.
