MIH: transitional GIC restoration

Molar Incisor Hypomineralization (MIH) affects 15% of children. Severe MIH often leads to extensive post eruptive enamel breakdown, high sensitivity, fast evolving carious lesions and high anxiety. Transitional restorations with a high density GIC protect the affected permanent molars up to teenage years: from 6-7 years old to 11-13 years old. Protection is both mechanical and chemical. Temporization up to teenage years leads to a far easier clinical situation. Gingival level is lower so all affected enamel can be inspected. Patient is older and less anxious. Tooth sensitivity is lowered. Parents better understand the necessity of an adhesive full coverage restoration (overlay or crown).
