Let’s talk about customer service… and what happens when it goes wrong. In this video I compare two brand-new compasses: the Silva Expedition Global (£65) and the Brunton H-3 (£113). One is marketed for civilian use, the other as a military compass. One works. The other didn’t. What followed was an interesting lesson in customer service - and a lack of it. Both compasses were faulty. Both companies were contacted in exactly the same way. Both were asked for an exchange. From that point on, the similarities ended. I’ll show you the actual email responses (on screen), explain what happened next, and talk through how each company handled the situation — from straightforward replacement to “technically there is nothing wrong with the compass.” To be clear: I’m not suggesting all Brunton compasses are faulty. I may simply have been unlucky. But when something doesn’t work out of the box, how a company responds matters. This isn’t a rant. It’s a real-world comparison of how two respected brands dealt with the same basic problem.
