When Congress passed the Controlled Substance Act in 1972, Cannabis and all parts of the plant were deemed to be Schedule 1. Schedule 1 is the most restrictive of all the Schedules. By definition Schedule 1 drugs have no accepted medical value in the United States, have a high propensity for abuse, and can not safely be used under the care of a physician. Cannabis does not fit the description of Schedule 1. Opposition to rescheduling point to the vast numbers of people seeking treatment for Cannabis Use Disorder each year. As a result of prohibition, people who are arrested with Cannabis often seek 'treatment' over incarceration. Hummm...
