Long ago in a faraway kingdom, King Sextimus has been silenced by a curse, allowing his overbearing wife, Queen Aggravain, to rule in his place. Determined to keep Prince Dauntless single, she decrees that only a princess who can pass her impossible test may marry him—and no one else may wed until he does. This spell threatens the happiness of Lady Larken and Sir Harry, who are secretly in love and expecting a child. Hope arrives in the form of Winnifred the Woebegone, an unconventional princess who captures Dauntless’s heart and ultimately passes the Queen’s test. When Aggravain still refuses the match, Dauntless orders her to “shut up,” breaking the King’s curse. With Sextimus restored and love triumphant, the kingdom rejoices.
